Gamtel’s accounts discussed in parliament

22 Aug 2008

Gambia’s parliament has requested that the country’s incumbent fixed line operator Gamtel and its wholly owned cellular subsidiary Gamcel present their financial accounts to the Public Accounts and Enterprises Committee by 8 September. There have been rumours circulated in local press of deteriorating performance at the two companies since the government sold a 50% stake in both to Lebanese firm Spectrum last August. Spectrum denies the rumours, which it claims will be proved false in an upcoming report of achievements and improvements.
