Norway picks DMB for Mobile TV

21 Aug 2008

Three Norwegian broadcasters, public broadcaster NRK and commercial broadcasters TV2 and MTG, have formed a consortium to launch Mobile TV this winter using Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) technology. The consortium, who will operate under the brand name Norsk Mobil TV (NMTV), has announced via press release that it is already in talks with operators and vendors to prepare for the launch. NMTV is planning to commence services in Greater Oslo, an area covering 30% of the Norwegian population, and the initial offering will consist of nine live TV channels, on demand content and other related services. It is understood that DMB has been chosen as the operator believes it will offer more cost efficient coverage of large and rural areas.
