RCOM launches DTH services, IPTV coming before year-end

Reliance Communications’ (RCOM) subsidiary, Reliance Big TV has launched its direct-to-home (DTH) services, announcing that it aims to capture 40% of the market within a year, Reuters reports. Big TV will offer approximately 200 channels and initially have coverage of 6500 towns. RCOM has also announced plans to roll out IPTV services by year-end, having previously announced a USD500 million software agreement with Microsoft in November 2007 for the project. Competition in the IPTV arena is expected from Bharti Airtel and Videocon Industries, both of whom are also planning IPTV services.
