MakTel rapped for excessive leased line costs

20 Aug 2008

Macedonian fixed line incumbent Makedonski Telekom (MakTel), which trades under the T-Home banner of its German parent Deutsche Telekom, has been ordered to pay rival ISPs EUR2.3 million (USD3.4 million) in fines for charging them too much to lease its digital lines. Kanal 5 reports that the country’s Competition Agency has levied the fine after adjudging that the incumbent was abusing its dominant position in the market and stifling competition. MakTel declined to comment other than to confirm it has lodged an appeal against the decision in the Constitutional Court.
