Softbank to introduce Casio mobile phones

19 Aug 2008

Japanese mobile operator Softbank plans to introduce new handsets from Casio Computer by the end of 2008, augmenting a line-up that already includes Apple’s now ubiquitous iPhone. Reuters reports tht the operator is offering Casio handsets, which are popular for their shock-proof and water resistant features and advanced digital cameras, to boost the company’s appeal to potential subscribers. Softbank Mobile, Japan’s third largest cellular operator by subscribers behind NTT DoCoMo and KDDI Corp, added more users than its bigger rivals on a net basis in July for the 15th consecutive month, boosted by the iPhone launch. The move is also ground-breaking for Casio which will be supplying Softbank with its first W-CDMA phone.
