Brazilian telecoms operator Oi (Telemar) expects its total client base to reach 21 million by the end of 2008, says BNamericas citing the company’s chief executive officer Jose Luis Salazar as saying. On 31 December 2007 the group’s overall subscriber base, including fixed line, mobile and broadband users, totalled around 16 million. Oi is looking to boost its broadband subscriber base to two million by the year-end, up from 1.8 million at the end of June 2008. At the same date Oi had 13.8 million fixed lines in service, down 3.2% year-on-year. Salazar added that the company’s broadband coverage will reach 470 cities nationwide by end-2008.
