Free Wi-Fi plan for entire San Luis province

15 Aug 2008

BNamericas reports that the provincial government of San Luis plans to provide free Wi-Fi services throughout the province by 2009. The University of La Punta told the news site that it has initiated the deployment of a broadband network in the province and is leading the publicly-funded rollout of Wi-Fi hotspots, as part of an overall aim of delivering Wi-Fi services across all of San Luis’ cities and municipalities. The initial phase of the project includes 24 cities and municipalities, with networking equipment provided by Wavion, and the authorities are preparing to launch a tender for the second stage of the project, which should extend coverage to a total of around 64 cities and municipalities. The Wi-Fi deployment is also aimed at filling in gaps in internet coverage in areas where operators lack infrastructure.
