Regulator invites proposal for fixed line concession

12 Aug 2008

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Oman has invited telcos to submit proposals for a Class One licence to offer integrated fixed line telephony, including radio spectrum for broadband access, submarine cable and a landing station. According to Gulf News, all interested parties have been advised to send their proposals before 25 August. The watchdog said that the top ten bidders would be shortlisted and invited for an auction which would take place at the beginning of November. Potential bidders must have had 300,000 active fixed subscribers in operation for at least two years; have no affiliation with Omantel; and have net assets in excess of USD200 million.
