Telekom Malaysia and Ericsson ink network expansion deal

Telekom Malaysia™ has signed a two-year contract with Swedish vendor Ericsson for the nationwide expansion of its optical network infrastructure and associated network management. Deployment of the kit began in June 2008, although no date has been announced for completion of the rollout. The upgrades will offer improved speeds and performance, allowing TM to manage growing consumer demand for broadband applications, including Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, TM currently dominates the broadband landscape in Malaysia, claiming a 93.3% market share at March 2008.
