Movilnet reaches eleven million users at mid-year

1 Aug 2008

The president of state-run mobile network operator Movilnet has announced that the company signed up a total of over eleven million subscribers by the end of June 2008, up from 9.5 million at the beginning of the year. Jaqueline Faría also said that during the first six months of this year Movilnet increased its total number of call minutes on its network by a third, attributing this growth to tariff cuts introduced since the re-nationalisation of parent telco CANTV in May 2007. Movilnet leads the cellular market in terms of subscribers, ahead of Movistar Venezuela and Digitel. The company claims that its market share by subscribers reached 44.4% at the mid-point of this year, though this is unconfirmed.
