Brazilian online media portal and internet company Universo Online (UOL) said its second-quarter revenue from advertising and other services for the three months to 30 June 2008 climbed 32% year-on-year to BRL69.2 million (USD44.1 million), while broadband subscribers rose 17%. UOL’s EBITDA for the three months under review was BRL34.9 million, down 33% year-on-year. The EBITDA margin was 25%, down 15 percentage points on Q2 2007, it said. Excluding non-recurring items in the period, EBITDA increased 9% y-o-y. The firm’s net income in April-June was BRL23.9 million, down 37% on the previous year, despite the number of paying broadband subscribers reaching 1.07 million by 30 June 2008, an increase of 17% over June 2007.
