Predictions of slower broadband demand realised for Carphone Warehouse

31 Jul 2008

Following warnings in June 2008, fiscal 1Q results from Carphone Warehouse have confirmed slowing performance from its broadband business. The company has revised its expectations for the year to March 2009, stating that it expects to add up to 250,000 new customers, rather than the 400,000 it had predicted earlier this year. The operator added 41,000 new broadband customers over the three months to 30 June 2008. Carphone attributed the lower demand for broadband services to the slowdown in consumer spending and the slump in housing market. Retail revenues for the company were up 10% year-on-year to GBP498 million (USD986 million).
