Maxcom to hold off on WiMAX deployment

31 Jul 2008

BNamericas is reporting that Mexican operator Maxcom has confirmed its interest in participating in auctions for WiMAX spectrum, but may delay the launch of services until it is satisfied with service quality and cost. Maxcom CEO, Rene Sagatsuy said: ‘the tests we’ve carried out with WiMAX technology providers have not yet given the performance and prices they ought to in order for us to decide to deploy WiMAX,’. Auctions for both WiMAX and 3G spectrum were due to go ahead this year, but reports earlier this month indicated that delays had occured, with changes at regulator Cofetel possibly to blame, and a confirmed date has yet to be announced.
