Embarq profits up despite lower revenues

30 Jul 2008

US wireline operator Embarq has reported a 3.5% drop in revenues for the second quarter to USD1.55 billion, driven by a 7.8% decline in access lines which in turn led to a 7.2% decline in voice revenue. Operating income was up 7% year-on-year to USD428 million as a result of improved operating efficiency, lower wireless dilution, the absence of spin-off expenses and lower depreciation expense. Net income was up 17% at USD206 million. Though the number of access lines dropped to just over six million, high speed internet accounts reached 1.36 million, up 18% y-o-y, with sales from this unit up 13.2% on the previous year.
