Claro to expand 3G network

30 Jul 2008

Claro will expand its 3G network from 73 cities in 21 provinces currently to a further 70 cities in the Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego areas by the end of 2008, the cellco said in a statement. ‘In certain areas of the country, Claro is the only option for internet services and that has generated significant demand,’ Commercial Director Fernando del Rio claimed. The executive also told BNamericas that he believes that the cost of 3G-enabled handsets is still too high to enable mass adoption in the country. However, he expects handset prices to start decreasing this year.
