US digital trunking company NII Holdings plans to invest an additional USD100 million in its Brazilian unit Nextel Brasil this year, BNamericas reports citing a company statement. NII’s chief executive officer Steve Dussek said: ‘Because we believe that there is a tremendous growth opportunity in Brazil, we are announcing our plan to make additional investments this year in Brazil to add more capacity to our network, to support our growth, and to expand our geographic footprint in that market.’ The additional CAPEX will be allocated towards expansion in the northeast region of the country. ‘The northeast region is an important business and economic centre for Brazil, generating an estimated 9% of the country’s GDP, with strong links to tourism, construction, and transportation,’ Dussek said.
