Liberty Global reportedly considering Unitymedia bid

25 Jul 2008

Liberty Global is reportedly considering a bid for a stake in Cologne-based cable operator Unitymedia, according to media news site Werben & Verkaufen. The cableco, which serves over 8.6 million homes in the densely populated regions of Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia, refused to comment when asked about the rumour. Liberty Global sought access to the German market in 2002 when it tried to buy the entire cable network of Deutsche Telekom, but the move was vetoed by the federal cartel office.
