Time Warner gears up for competition in New York

23 Jul 2008

Time Warner Cable is preparing for increasing competition in the market for triple-play services in New York following the news that Verizon Communications is to start installing its FiOS fibre links to customers on 1 August. A report from the Wall Street Journal says the cable operator is now offering discounts to subscribers who commit to longer term contracts for any of its TV, telephony or internet services; the discounts were previously only available to people who subscribed to a package including all three services. The firm is also ramping up its customer service and sales operations, with the focus on the borough of Staten Island, where Verizon’s FiOS is expected to be rolled out first, and Staten Island has also been the first area to receive high definition digital services from Time Warner Cable.
