Telekom Malaysia™, the former monopoly fixed line operator, has claimed that its national high speed broadband project is proceeding as planned, according to Reuters. Ratification of the contract for the installation of the network by the government had been expected at the beginning of July 2008, but was postponed, leading to speculation that the project had hit difficulties. It is understood that reviews of the governments funding for the project may be partly responsible for the delays, but TM Chief Executive, Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, maintains that the telco is ready to start the rollout six months from when the contract is signed. Indications from government officials are that the deal could be concluded within a month.
