Metronet, a data communications company with fibre and wireless networks in Manchester and Liverpool, has revealed plans to roll out a 2Gbps wireless broadband network in Dublin targeting the business community, reports. The firm is entering the Irish telecoms market via a joint venture initiative with a local management team headed up by Martin Smyth, and will operate through a newly created subsidiary, MLNet. Smyth says MLNet will focus primarily on the business-to-business (B2B) marketplace and will compete head-on with the former monopoly eircom, BT Ireland, UPC and Irish Broadband.
