Far EasTone expects 2.8 million 3G subs this year

18 Jul 2008

Taiwan’s Far EasTone (FET) has raised its 3G subscription target for 2008 by 40%. The operator had set a goal of two million subscribers for the year, but as take-up has been faster than expected in the first half of 2008 it has revised its target and now expects numbers to nearly triple to 2.8 million. FET vice president Maxwell Cheng attributed the large subscriber additions to an increase it the number of 3G phones available for customers to choose from. This year FET has increased its 3G handset subsidies to up to TWD5,000 (USD165) per subscriber and plans to purchase as many as 1.4 million handsets to deal with the increase in new subscribers this year, one-third of which will be 3G phones.
