RCOM to receive GSM interconnectivity

16 Jul 2008

A report from Telecom Tiger states that the Telecoms Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has directed all existing GSM operators to provide interconnectivity to Reliance Communications’ (RCOM) network. The ruling comes after other operators refused to offer interconnectivity, claiming that RCOM’s GSM licence required new negotiations. RCOM contended that its national GSM rollout programme was not being carried out under a ‘new’ licence, but instead an extension of its existing CDMA licences. Following the ruling all operators will now need to agree terms with RCOM on an individual basis.
