Malaysian regulator wants longer prepaid validity

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has ruled that mobile operators must introduce pre-paid packages with longer validity periods. Currently, pre-paid services have a maximum validity period of 30 days, but following the ruling operators will have to adopt validity for 180 days. Operators have agreed to introduce new packages by the end of 2008. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Maxis Mobile is the current leader in the Malaysian mobile market, with 41.45% market share at March 2008, ahead of rivals Celcom and DiGi Telecommunications.
