3G cellular operator 3 Italia, part if the Hutchison Whampoa group, working with Swedish equipment vendor Ericsson, has announced the world’s first successful establishment of enhanced HSPA mobile data connections on a commercial network. The enhanced HSPA upgrade offers peak data upload speeds of up to 5.8Mbps and a significant reduction in network latency, resulting in markedly better performance for interactive consumer applications, Ericsson said in a statement. Vincenzo Novari, CEO of 3 Italia, said: ‘This world-first achievement reaffirms our commitment to accelerating the development of the mobile broadband market.’ Separately, 3 Italia has inked a wholesale mobile deal with broadband operator Digitel which will allow the ISP to resell 3 Italia’s mobile services under its own name.
