TRAI agrees DoT 3G pricing stance, WiMAX reserve prices to rise

TRAI recommendations released 11 July approve Department of Telecommunications (DoT) proposals for raising the pan-India licence fee for 3G and WiMAX services. The new base prices are reported to be INR22 billion (USD509 million) and INR8.4 billion (USD194 million) for 3G and WiMAX respectively. TRAI is also reported as having agreed with DoT’s changes to the reserve prices for the auction of WiMAX licences in individual regions. Prices for category A, category B and category C circles will be INR400 million (USD9.26 million), INR200million (USD4.63 million) and INR75million (USD1.73 million) respectively.
