Telus dishes out free spam to avoid egg on face

14 Jul 2008

Telus has issued a guarantee that it will not charge customers for receiving spam text messages, following criticism of Telus and Bell Mobility’s plans to charge users for incoming mobile-to-mobile SMS unless they subscribe to a texting package. Telus clients can forward any unsolicited marketing to the network operator with the word SPAM in the body of the message and their account will be adjusted automatically, apparently ‘with no questions asked’ . TeleGeography was unable to verify reports that users will be able to avoid paying charges altogether by telling all their friends and family to include a fake advert for male potency treatments and/or ‘genuine’ replica watches at the top of every message…
