3 UK looking to double customer base

9 Jul 2008

The Financial Times is reporting that 3, the British W-CDMA mobile network operator owned by Hong Kong’s Hutchison Whampoa, is seeking to double its customers by 2012. ‘Over the next three to four years I would like to more than double the net revenue in the business, and double the customer base,’ said Chief Executive Kevin Russell. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database estimated 3 UK’s subscriber base at 4,100,000 at end-March 2008. In order to achieve its revenue targets 3 will have to contend with the May 2008 ruling from regulator OFTA forcing it to reduce connection charges for rival companies by 45%.
