PalTel implements Nortel soft switches

7 Jul 2008

Palestine Telecommunication Company (PalTel), the national telecommunications provider of the Palestinian Territory, has announced the addition of Nortel soft switches to its network. According to Mohannad Al-Hijawi, general manager of PalTel, the deal is part of a complete transformation which will see the organisation deploy a next-generation converged network. Earlier network upgrades have enabled PalTel to introduce new features and services such as televoting, video broadcasting and broadband to the home. Other vendors including Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson are being considered for co-ordinating the transformation, and an announcement on the final vendor is expected soon.
