Fresh licensing ‘slow’ says local source

BNamericas reports that during the first half of this year 63 telecoms licences were cancelled in Argentina, whilst only 18 new concessions were issued. Local newspaper El Cronista said that most of the defunct licensees were data and value added service providers which had failed to launch or develop services, whilst a total of 3,344 telecoms licences remained effective in the country at mid-2008. Local consultancy Prince & Cooke’s director Alejandro Prince was quoted as saying that telecoms ministry SeCom’s process to issue new licences is ‘very slow’.
