Telecom IP deal

4 Jul 2008

Telecom New Zealand has contracted Alcatel-Lucent (Alca-Lu), which already manages its fixed line and mobile networks, to construct a new Internet Protocol (IP) network. The French-US firm will help Telecom meet its obligations under the new government regulations which also require Telecom to separate into three separate operating units and open its network to competitors. The new IP network should be completed by December 2009 and is worth NZD130 million (USD98 million) to the equipment vendor.
