Tariff liberalisation plans divide opinion

BNamericas writes that Chile’s anti-trust commission, FNE, and the telecoms regulator Subtel are at odds over a plan to totally liberalise fixed line telecoms rates. In a 100-page report presented to the anti-trust tribunal TDLC, which is considering liberalising rates of incumbent Telefonica Chile, the FNE said that such a decision could lead to inter alia anti-competitive practices, predatory pricing and cross subsidisation. Subtel, on the other hand, is broadly in favour of liberalising rates, with certain ‘conditions’ attached.
