Romanian cable operators UPC, Cablevision, Electron M. Bit Telecom, and Sebmar are set to merge their operations. UPC which offers cable and satellite services, internet, and digital fixed telephony already has control of the separate companies. The merger plan was set up and approved by administrators of the four companies on 16 June and will be completed on 1 October with the aim of reducing administrative costs and streamlining processes.
In June, CommsUpdate reported UPC Romania’s plans to invest a total of EUR40 million (USD53.8 million) in network upgrades this year. The firm, which has around 1.4 million customers in 200 cities, says it has spent USD500 million on its Romanian operations since launching in 1992.
