Spanish regulator rules mobile fee rise unlawful

3 Jul 2008

A probe by Spain’s competition authority La Comision Nacional de Competencia (CNC) has concluded that Telefonica, France Telecom’s Orange and Vodafone Group unlawfully agreed to raise rates at the same time last year. The investigation was prompted by a complaint in October 2007 from a consumer action group following rate increases made in March that year. These rate increases coincided with new laws being passed which banned mobile operators from rounding up bills. The CNC has sent all three operators its findings and they now have 15 days to respond to the conclusions.
