E-Plus sees advertising, not traffic, as sales driver of the future

24 Jun 2008

E-Plus is switching its business model away from generating revenue from traffic and end-user subscriptions and more towards sales from advertisers and cooperation partners, reports Telecompaper citing comments made by E-Plus CEO Thorsten Dirks that appeared in the Financial Times Deutschland newspaper. Mr Dirks said that despite the growth of mobile data usage it is becoming increasingly difficult for cellcos to make money from traffic, and that advertising will be the main driver of revenue in the future. E-Plus’s discount service provider Simyo is currently trialling advertisements in mobile handset games which can be downloaded for free.
