Following the creation of its Open Access division in February, Telecom Italia (TI) has unveiled plans to give alternative operators greater access to its Italian fixed line network. The proposals include an assurance that all competitors will receive equal treatment; easier access to information regarding the quality and the development of the access network; and a new process of activation for wholesale customer services. A new unit will also be set up to ensure these pledges are adhered to.
TI’s Open Access division was set up to manage the group’s network separately from its services business, and ensure equal access to the grid for competitors after pressure from the country’s regulator Agcom. TI also hopes to reach agreement with Agcom to further separate its access network from its retail operations by the end of July.
