Sierratel receives Chinese equipment

17 Jun 2008

Sierratel has received fixed-wireless network equipment worth USD16.5 million from the Chinese government, paid for with a loan from the Chinese. The network, which will have initial capacity for 100,000 users, will complement the state-owned telco’s existing fixed line infrastructure, with a focus on areas where wireline services are unavailable. Services over the new network will be launched by September at the latest.
