Cablecos look to beat telcos to triple-play launch

13 Jun 2008

Cable TV operators Multicanal and Cablevision, both controlled by media giant Grupo Clarin, are deploying fibre-optic infrastructure with a view to offering triple-play services, reports BNamericas citing local paper Infobae. The cablecos are deploying infrastructure in major cities across Argentina as part of an investment plan worth ARS948 million (USD310 million). ‘We are developing an alternative fibre-optic network to avoid monopolies,’ said Cablevision commercial manager Gonzalo Hita. Cable TV companies are currently positioning themselves to enter the triple-play market before legislation preventing telcos from offering broadcasting services is removed.
