10 Jun 2008

Telecom Italia has maintained that it is interested in playing a part in the further consolidation of the German telecoms market but has not formulated specific plans yet, reports Thomson Financial. ‘We are talking with everyone. There isn’t anything concrete,’ a Telecom Italia spokeswoman stated without elaborating. Currently, Telecom Italia controls broadband operator Hansenet (Alice), which it bought in 2003, and AOL Germany, acquired in 2006. Local newspaper ll Sole 24 Ore claims that German telco Versatel Communications’ majority shareholder Apax (44%) has informally contacted Telecom Italia to see if it would be interested in acquiring the equity firm’s stake in the broadband operator.
