10 Jun 2008

According to the Indian press Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) have parted ways on their joint submarine cable project. The two companies had joined hands in September 2006 to build an undersea cable from India to Singapore and Malaysia and another to West Asia, which was to be extended to US and Europe. According to sources, BSNL has now pulled out of the project for unspecified reasons. MTNL has said that it will now provide the entire INR15 billion (USD350 million) investment by itself.
