PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia has revealed it will offer the country’s dominant telecoms operator PT Telkom IDR3 trillion (USD330 million) in loans to support its capital expenditure programme. In total, the telco is looking to find funding of IDR9.3 trillion to support its expansion programme. Antara News reports that the operator intends to invest USD2.5 billion in 2008 to build a further 3,000 base transceiver stations (BTSs) and to purchase an as yet unnamed telecoms company in the Middle East. This loan will come mainly from Bank Rakyat Indonesia and Bank Negara Indonesia, both of which are state owned.
