Telmex seeks triple-play green light

6 Jun 2008

Telmex has called on the Mexican government to allow it to begin offering triple-play services from 5 July, saying that with the introduction of number portability (NP) regulations on that date there will be no reason for it to continue being blocked from selling combined voice/internet/TV packages. Implementing NP is the last of three requirements established in an October 2006 convergence agreement that also requires interconnection and interoperability with other telcos and cablecos as a condition for starting to offer television services. BNamericas reports that Telmex’s legal director Javier Mondragon told local press that the company is prepared to pay any extra cost to carry out modifications to its concession licence to allow it to offer television.
