Iliad odyssey remains fourth mobile licence

4 Jun 2008

French broadband internet provider Iliad is still interested in acquiring the country’s fourth and final 3G mobile operating licence, Dow Jones reports, citing the group’s chief executive officer Maxime Lombardini as saying. Lombardini confirmed the concession was his company’s ‘ambition’ but said the right ‘legal path’ had still to be found vis a vis awarding the licence. The government has asked the country’s telecoms watchdog Arcep to consider the relative merits of awarding the frequencies on offer either to a single bidder, or by splitting them up and awarding them to a number of companies. In October last year Iliad’s original bid for the licence was rejected by Arcep for failing to meet the necessary financial criteria.
