The Czech Republic’s third largest mobile operator by subscribers, Vodafone CR (formerly Oskar), added 40,000 net new additions in January-March 2008 to increase its total base to 2.7 million users by the end of the first quarter. Year-on-year, the cellco’s growth rate was 9%, or 223,000 new SIM cards, its UK parent said in a press release. The Prague Daily Monitor reports that Vodafone’s growth compared favourably with larger rivals Telefonica O2 CR and T-Mobile, which recorded annual growth of 6.6% (to 5.16 million) and 3.2% (to 5.27 million), respectively. Mobile data services provider MobilKom (U:fon) had an estimated 150,000 users at the same date. Vodafone said contract users accounted for 51.9% of its total user base at the end of March 2008, compared with 52.4% in Q1 2007, while average revenue per user (ARPU) amounted to CZK581 (USD36.3) a month – versus CZK484 at T-Mobile and CZK509 at O2.
