Wind reports first quarter growth

Italy’s largest alternative fixed line operator, Wind, has reported first-quarter revenues of EUR1.3 billion (USD2.05 billion), up 4.4% year-on-year. Net profits jumped from EUR6.6 million in the first three months of 2007 to EUR39.6 million this year on the back of string performances at Wind’s mobile and broadband internet businesses. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) were up 6.6% at EUR456 million. The number of broadband customers rose 32% y-o-y to 1.11 million by the end of March, while the mobile customer base now stands at 15.9 million.
