Telefonica Brazil inks fibre-optic deal with Ericsson

The Brazilian unit of Spain’s Telefonica has selected Ericsson to maintain its fibre-optic network. Under the agreement, Ericsson will supervise and provide preventive and corrective maintenance services for Telefonica’s fibre-optic network in Sao Paulo state. As a result of the contract the telco hopes to cut operational costs and focus on its core telecoms business. The move will also enable it to bring new services to market more quickly, Ericsson says. No financial details were disclosed.
