Aperto wins WiMAX deal in Algeria

20 May 2008

The Algerian ISP Icosnet has contracted Aperto Networks to deploy a WiMAX network which will be used to provide high speed wireless internet services to business users. Aperto will provide its PacketMAX 5000 base stations and PacketMAX 100 subscriber units. Deployments have already begun in northern Algeria and Icosnet plans expansions to other regions. ‘Speed of deployment was crucial to our success,’ said Andrew Kinnear, CEO of Icosnet. ‘We were upgrading an older wireless network to WiMAX and wanted to avoid having to reapply for spectrum.’
