Mobile sales reach USD130 million in 1Q-2008

Paraguay’s economy ministry says the country’s four mobile operator billed a total USD130 million in the first quarter of this year, up 14% from the same period in 2007. A report from BNamericas which cites local newspaper ABC Color says sales reached USD458 million in the whole of 2007. Paraguay was home to around 4.8 million mobile subscribers at the end of 2008, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, with Millicom’s Telecel unit taking around 43% of the market, Telecom Argentina’s Nucleo claiming 34%, Japanese-owned Hola Paraguay taking 13% and America Movil subsidiary CTI claiming 10%.
