14 May 2008

US wireless internet operator Clearwire has reported a net loss of USD176.4 million for the first quarter, up from USD92.6 million a year ago. The increased losses were attributed to the firm’s rapid network expansion. This expansion has seen revenues jump 76% year-on-year to USD51.5 million and customers grow from 258,000 in March 2007 to 443,000 in March this year. Average monthly revenue per user rose 3% to USD36.86. Clearwire recently formed a venture with Sprint Nextel under which the pair will deploy a joint national WiMAX wireless broadband network.
