BNamericas, quoting commercial director Fernando del Rio, reports that Argentinean cellco Claro expects to focus on the expansion of its 3G network in 2008. Claro Argentina, which until recently was known as CTI Movil, already provides 3G coverage of 70 cities. ‘In Argentina, this year we will expand coverage to another group of cities across the country,’ said Sr del Rio. ‘Our intention is to have nationwide coverage. Our first priority is to provide 3G service in the most important cities.’ He added that Claro, a unit of Mexico’s America Movil, expects that its sister companies in neighbouring Uruguay and Paraguay will also increase their 3G coverage, currently restricted to the respective capital cities of Montevideo and Asuncion. Claro Argentina launched 3G services including mobile broadband in November last year, and has previously indicated that it expects to invest up to ARS860 million (USD273 million) this year in technology and infrastructure.
