The US wireline operator Windstream has seen profits jump 24% in the first three months of this year to USD123.7 million. Revenues rose from USD783.7 million to USD811.7 million, as take-up of high speed internet services helped to counteract declines in the fixed voice market. Windstream added 39,600 net new broadband users in the first quarter, taking its total customer base to 911,000. The number of fixed access lines in service dropped slightly to 3.18 million. ‘We are successfully replacing residential voice revenue streams with growth in data, special access and long-distance,’ said Chief Executive Jeff Gardner.
